ITINERARY
FIRST DAY: CUSCO/SAN PEDRO LODGE
We leave Cusco early in the morning in our specialized overland vehicles. Approximately mid-morning we visit the interesting
Pre- Inca tombs of Ninamarca, commonly known as "Chullpas". We continue to Paucartambo, a picturesque Spanish colonial town,
and then to the Acjanacu pass, which marks the beginning of the Cultural Zone of Manu Biosphere Reserve. Here, a thick cloak of
clouds provides perpetual humidity and makes an ideal habitat for epiphytic plants such as bromeliads. This varied and
fascinating world is home of the Cock of the Rock, Spectacled Bear, Orchids, Tree Ferns (one of the oldest living plants),
mosses and lichens. This cloud forest exists between 2000 and 3500 meters above sea level and at least 50% of the plant species
found here are endemic to this region. Overnight in "Orquideas de San Pedro Lodge".

SECOND DAY: SAN PEDRO LODGE / ERIKA PRIVATE RESERVE
Today we wake up very early to observe the Cock-of-the-Rock (Rupicola peruviana), Peru’s national bird. The male birds are a
vibrant reddish orange and about 5:00am. as many as several dozen come together for an exhibition of a ritual mating dance in a
comfortably installed on an observation platform called "Lek". The males display their crest, showing off and posturing for the
females. The females, fewer in number, watch to select the most suitable males. After breakfast we continue by bike down the
narrow road between waterfalls and canyons toward Pilcopata town (*1) for 2 hours approximately (*2). A 30 minutes bus ride to
the port of Atalaya where we will board our covered outboard motor boat and head down the Alto Madre de Dios River for
approximately 30 minutes toward our private reserve of "Erika Lodge". Short walk around the lodge.
* 1st Optional: Descend with mountain bikes from San Pedro Lodge (1700 m.a.s.l.) - Cloud Forest to Pilcopata-
High Jungle (700 m.a.s.l.). ($20.00 x pax - booking in advance).
* 2nd Optional: Here in Pilcopata we will make the final settings for a 3 hour tropical jungle river rafting
trip down the Kosńipata river where we will have the opportunity for a dip and of course enjoy the spectacular view of the
Koneq canyon. Continuing down the tropical river of Alto Madre de Dios to Erika Lodge.
* 3rd Optional: New!!! Canopy tour: Our guests traverse from tree to tree and platform to platform using
pulleys on horizontal traverse cables, as they sail through the treetops of the tropical rainforest canopy, and over the trails
far below. Expert guides assist you in this exciting journey through the different layers of the virgin rain forests and
explain what's going on around you, from the time you leave the ground, until you rappel back down to the forest floor.
INCLUDES: Overnight in Lodge Erika, breakfast, lunch and dinner.
THIRD DAY:
This day we will get up very early to board our boat, and after five minutes, we will arrive to a Parrot Lick "Collpa", which
is a wall of clay in the riverbanks, where many species of parrots such as the blue headed parrot, white-eyed parakeet, feed
for mineral and salt supplements to their diet of seeds and fruits. After this we will take the boat to Atalaya where the bus
takes us out of Manu, arriving Cusco late in the afternoon.

THE PROGRAM INCLUDES:
- In order to meet with group and guide, receive last recommendations and answer questions; briefing one day prior to departure
at 7:00pm. at the agency.
- Own ground transportation (overland buses and 4WD vehicles).
- Our boat transportation (covered motor boats) - captain, bycicle equipment, rafting equipment in the case you want to take
the option.
- 01 night in San Pedro open air lodge, 01 night at Lodge Erika.
- You will enjoy at breakfast, lunch and dinner. If there are vegetarians in the group, please tell us in advance.
- They can feel safe to drink purified water during the whole trip.
- Guided nocturnal and day excursions to look for animals.
- Expert bilingual naturalist guide from the area in charge of small groups.
- Radio communication equipment in all lodges and campsites, Satellite telephone for emergencies and as additional service we
offer safety box for values and storage for luggage in Cusco's main office.
- First aid kit.
- Please note that the program may vary slightly so as to maximize your wildlife sightings.
YOU NEED TO BRING:
- Sleeping bag.
- Towel, swimming suit, sandals, medicaments and personal clean items.
- Tennis shoes, strong trekking boots.
- Flishlight with extra batteries.
- Hat or cap, sun glasses, sun screen.
- Mosquito repellent (40% DEET or more recommended).
- 100% waterproof rain gear (long poncho or rain wear), long sleeved shirts, long cotton pants. As a recommendation, you should
wear light-colored-clothing to avoid mosquitoes.
- Hot clothes in the case of cold.
- Binoculars, camera and several rolls of films (400 ASA recommended).
- Backpack and little backpack, plastic bags.
- A bottle of water for the first day.
- We solicite to the passengers that their luggage does not have to exceed in 10Kg.
NOT INCLUDED:

SAN PEDRO ORQUIDEAS LODGE / ERIKA LODGE
SAN PEDRO ORQUIDEAS LODGE
Open air platform "San Pedro" (1,700m.a.s.l. - 5, 100 feet); Tambo San Pedro, owned by Manu Ecological Adventures,
accommodates groups of less to 25 people in comfortable beds with mosquito nets. It is limited to this number to prevent
detrimental effects to the surrounding forest. There is no electricity. Kerosene lanterns and torches provide all artificial
illumination. Facilities are rustic, There is also a screen in dinning room, kitchen and bathrooms. Most used by serious bird
watchers and groups wishing to visit more isolated and less disturbed areas of the cloud forest. But also is used by all of
our fixed departure groups for one night on the way in. There There are now a serie of trails that interlace through the
forest at Tambo San Pedro.
ERIKA LODGE
Erika Lodge (600 m.a.s.l. to 1,150 m.a.s.l); is located on the Alto Madre Dios River and is backed by the Pini Pini Mountains
in a transition zone between high and low jungle encompassing different habitats. This altitude range explains the high
diversity of wildlife found around this lodge. The lodge owns 90 hectares of forest declared private reserve in 1992. Erika
accommodates groups of less to 32 people in single, double and triple rooms. There is no electricity. Facilities are rustic
but comfortable, accommodation is in mosquito proof rooms with beds, sheets and blankets, there is also a screened dining
room, a nice overview site with hammocks, kitchen and bathrooms. There are a series of approximately 15km. of unmarked trails
that interlace through the forest at Erika Lodge. Guests are asked to use these trails only while accompanied by a guide.
